Arsenal are hoping to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid central defender Jose Gimenez in the summer.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a defensive overhaul, and they are hoping to make Gimenez the first signing.

Arsene Wenger originally wanted to go after Steven De Vrij, who will be available on a free this summer. However, the Lazio man is looking set for a move to Liverpool, meaning Arsenal will turn their attentions to Gimenez.
