Arsenal striker Chamakh risks international ban after ref blast

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh is in hot water with FIFA.

Chamakh is facing an international ban after accusing a referee of "perverting" the course of a game.

The Arsenal striker played in Morocco's 1-0 defeat by Algeria in an African Nations Cup qualifier on Sunday where he repeatedly clashed with ref Rajindraparsad Seechurn, and savaged the Mauritanian official afterwards.

"I can't understand why that ref was chosen for such an important match," Chamakh said. "He perverted the entire game.

"Is he all that the Confederation of African Football can find? He was not at all objective in the decisions he took, and it was deplorable."

But Mauritius FA president Vinod Persunnoo hit back, saying: "We could ask for Chamakh to be punished for his comments.

"I met the head of the Moroccan FA before the game and he said he is one of the best refs in Africa."
