Arsenal secure Clichy to new contract

The 22-year-old French left-back joined the Gunners from Cannes in 2003.

Clichy has established himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's side following Ashley Cole's controversial departure to Chelsea.

And Clichy - who made more first-team appearances than any other Arsenal player last season - has been rewarded with a new deal by Wenger.

Earlier in the day, Clichy's agent had distanced his client from a move away from Emirates Stadium and even confirmed that the player is about to commit his future to the North Londoners.

"The Giallorossi have never knocked at the door, to the contrary," the agent told Calcio Mercato.

"It would be useless for them to take a similar player as (new signing John Arne) Riise, don't you agree?

"Anyway Clichy signs a contract extension with Arsenal today."
