Arsenal's Wenger: Things positive for Wilshere but he won't play this year

Jack Wilshere is making good progress from an ankle injury but still won't play a role for Arsenal in 2011 says manager Arsene Wenger.

The 19-year old midfielder has not appeared for the Gunners so far this season after having surgery on the problem in late September and even though he can now lose the crutches he required, will not be in action in the next ten or so weeks.

"We have no chance to get Wilshere back before the New Year," Wenger said.

"The only positive thing is the X-ray after six weeks, which was a vital one, looked very positive and very good.

"So he will be on time, his surgery went well, his healing is going well, but still there is no chance before the middle or end of January."
