Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has been handed a three-match ban after accepting a charge of violent conduct.
The Cameroonian has received the punishment after stamping on the back of Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton's leg in the ill-tempered scoreless draw at St James' Park on Saturday.
The incident went unseen by referee Peter Walton but has since been referred to the Football Association who released a statement on the matter today.
"Arsenal's Alex Song will begin a three match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted a charge of violent conduct," read the statement.
"Song was charged following in incident during Arsenal's fixture at Newcastle United on Saturday 13th August."
Song will now miss the Gunners home clash with Liverpool on Saturday, the trip to champions Manchester United on the 28th and the visit of newcomers Swansea City on September 10.
