Arsenal's Mertesacker could be fit for Euro2012

Injured Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker could be available for Germany's Euro2012 squad according to club manager Arsene Wenger.

The centre-back has been sidelined since he had surgery to repair ankle ligaments in February but is recovering well and could be fit for the summer tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

"He is doing well. He is hopeful he will make the Euros and I hope he does," Wenger said on Arsenal's official website.

"He is doing all his work here and the next two weeks will be vital for him. He has started ball work and he looks quite good."
