Arsenal's Fabregas: Wenger was like I've never seen him

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has revealed that manager Arsene Wenger screamed at his players like he never has before at half-time of the match against Liverpool on Sunday. The Gunners went into the break 1-0 down, prompting the French tactician to unleash a verbal tirade on his charges which kicked them into gear and helped them to a 2-1 win at Anfield, keeping their title hopes very much alive.

Fabregas said he had never seen Wenger like that before when he told the players 'they did not deserve to wear the shirt'.

"The boss screamed. I've never seen him like that before," Fabregas told Sky Sports 1.

"He was really disappointed in the first half and said we didn't deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt if we played like that.

"And I think he was right. In the second half we turned it round."

Wenger admitted to have a go at his players at the break but did not divulge what was said but he conceded that Liverpool were clearly the better team in the first 45 minutes.

"I will not explain what I said at half-time (to my players). I will only say that Liverpool dominated the first half and Arsenal dominated the second period," he said.

"Liverpool played at a pace above us and won all the 50-50s in the first period, and at half-time a score of just 1-0 down was good for us.

"I never speak about what I say at half-time. You respond to what you believe your team needs. I try to be composed. I was quite composed.

"But it is good that after 13 years as manager I can still surprise the players like that."
