Costa Rica winger Joel Campbell has been sanctioned by FIFA for his act of simulation in a recent World Cup qualifier against the USA.
The 21-year old Arsenal forward, on loan to Greek club Olympiakos, went down behind US defender Matt Besler during Los Ticos' 3-1 win in San Jose early last month which cost the Sporting Kansas City man a yellow card.
Upon review of the footage, FIFA have issued Campbell with a reprimand for 'violating the principles of fair play or whose behaviour is otherwise unsporting.'
A FIFA spokesperson told MLSsoccer.com: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the player Joel Campbell of Costa Rica with a reprimand for breaching art. 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), also taking into account art. 108 par. 1 and art. 96 par. 1 of the FDC."
