Arsenal have joined the race for Benfica pair Angel di Maria and David Luiz.

The Daily Star Sunday says Arsenal are one of the clubs checking on ­Benfica winger Di Maria, 22, and his ­defensive ­team-mate Luiz, 22.

There is fierce competition there, though, from Real Madrid, ­Manchester ­United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Arsene Wenger knows he could miss out on some of his targets, not least through a reluctance to pay over the odds or become embroiled in an auction.
