Arsenal revive plans for Blackburn defender Samba

Arsenal are expected to push through a deal for Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba.

The Daily Express says having lost out to Manchester United in the battle to sign Phil Jones, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expected to step up his efforts to sign a central defender.

Wenger and the Gunners met Blackburn's £17m asking price for Jones and know that Gary Cahill has the same release clause in his Bolton contract. Jones's former Blackburn team-mate Christopher Samba is another long-term target of Wenger's.

It is believed Congo defender Samba is already upset the Ewood Park club have sold one of their best players so early in the transfer window.
