Arsenal want to lure Brian Marwood away from Manchester City.
The People says the board are convinced the former Gunners winger can be the man to work alongside Arsene Wenger to attract the world's top players to north London and take the club back to the big time.
Wenger is desperate for a link man with the Arsenal board over transfer strategy, a role that's been vacant since the departure nearly six years ago of vice-chairman David Dein.
And the board believe Marwood - who won the title with Arsenal as a flying winger in 1989 - is the perfect choice to help the Frenchman end seven-and-a-half years of hurt.
Marwood, 52, is thought to be keen on a switch after being marginalised at Manchester City.
