Arsene Wenger felt his Arsenal side showed great resilience in their 2-1 FA Cup fifth round victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners found themselves two goals ahead early in the second half after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finished calmly following a deflection in the 16th minute before he turned provider for Lukas Podolski.
Reds skipper Steven Gerrard pulled one back for the visitors when he sent Gunners keeper Lukasz Fabianski the wrong way after Luis Suarez had been brought down in the area by Podolski.
Fabianski had done well to keep Liverpool at bay throughout and the Reds had another penalty shout waved away late as Wenger had his defence to thank for seeing the north Londoners through to the quarter-finals where they will meet today's Merseyside rivals Everton.p> "Look, Liverpool is a very strong team. They had some chances but you should not forget that we as well had some very good chances on top of that," he said.
"They were in a position where they had to take the initiative because they were 2-0 down, they had to throw absolutely everything forward. They are good enough to create chances against any team, but we were resilient, focused on defending well.
"Overall it looked yes that they could score, but it looked always that when we won the ball we had a chance to go to the goal and score as well."
