Arsenal remain interested in Hoffenheim defender Schar

Arsenal are keen on reviving their interest in Hoffenheim defender Fabian Schar, according to reports from Bild.

Following the injuries suffered by Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista, Arsenal are currently going through a crisis at the back and the Gunners face the prospect of fielding inexperienced duo Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as the central defensive partnership for their opening Premier League game against Liverpool this weekend.

The injuries means that manager Arsene Wenger will be forced to ramp up his pursuit to sign a new defender and now according to reports from Germany, Arsenal are again considering an £8million swoop for long-time target Schar.

The Gunners had been heavily linked with the 24-year-old Swiss international when Mertesacker went down, before the interest stalled, but it is understood that there is potentially a renewed move on the cards as the close of the summer transfer window draws near.
