Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Liverpool defender Dan Agger.
The Daily Star says Agger is viewed at Arsenal as an ideal replacement for new Barcelona signing Thomas Vermaelen.
Agger is said to have broken down after the heart-to-heart with boss Brendan Rodgers, where he raised fears he would be unable to reclaim his place in the Reds starting line up.
Barcelona were also linked with a move for the Denmark international but a second defensive signing seems unlikely for the Spanish giants.
It leaves the north London club in pole position to snap up Agger.
