Arsenal put Emirates Cup on ice due to Olympics

Arsenal are putting the Emirates Cup into hibernation due to the London Olympics.

With the Games taking place in London from July 27 to August 12, the club cannot find a weekend to squeeze in the four-team tournament.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: "Although we are disappointed we cannot stage the Emirates Cup in 2012, we completely understand and accept the situation.

"Over 100,000 people have attended each year since we introduced the competition in 2007 and this would have only added to the demands on London's infrastructure during the Olympics.

"We respect the situation and, like everyone, we are looking forward to a successful Games."
