Shakhtar Donetsk defender Yaroslav Rakitskiy is being watched by Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger allowed the transfer deadline to fall yesterday without adding a new defensive signing.
The Daily Star Sunday says Wenger is now only interested in long-term defensive targets and will have Ukraine international Rakitskiy watched this season.
Just 21, Rakitskiy is now also a regular with Ukraine's national team, having made his debut as an 18 year-old.
