Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing Everton midfielder James McCarthy. The Mirror says Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, since before he left Wigan for Goodison Park in summer 2013.
Everton would be reluctant to part with the Republic of Ireland international so the price would again be huge, even if McCarthy may be keen on a switch to the Emirates.
Wenger has put his faith in Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini to be his defensive midfielders but there is a realisation that they need reinforcements, having failed to bring any in last summer.
