Per Mertesacker could yet leave Arsenal this month.

The London Evening Standard says the Arsenal captain is yet to play this season after suffering a serious knee injury in pre-season.

The Germany World Cup winner is close to agreeing a new one-year contract at the Emirates.

But he could still leave the Gunners on loan this month.

Mertesacker would find it tough to break into Arsenal's team when he returns to full fitness.
