Arsenal plan to swoop for long-term target Melo

Arsenal are ready to move for Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal moved for Melo in 2009 to strengthen a threadbare central midfield, but missed out because they were not willing to match Fiorentina's asking price. Juve did, but now fear they haven't got value for money.

Melo's agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster said: "In the coming days we will know a little more. We have been talking to Juventus but there is no official position on his future. He has been playing really well in the last couple of games.

"Right now he is doing well and we have no official communication saying that he is for sale. However, if Juventus decide they want to sell him the Premier League would be one of his favourite options available to him."
