Arsenal have opened talks with Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry.

The Daily Star says Barry has opened talks with Arsenal over a possible £4m move to the Emirates.

The England midfielder, who is in the final 12 months of his £100,000-aweek deal at Manchester City, fears he won't be part of new boss Manuel Pellegrini's plans.

Arsenal are favourites to sign Barry with boss Arsene Wenger telling him he would be an integral part of his team.

Arsenal are willing to offer Barry a 12-month deal worth around £75,000 a week, with the option of a second year if he is a success.
