Danny Welbeck does not believe he has gone past Daniel Sturridge in the England pecking order.
The Arsenal striker has taken his chance up front for the Three Lions with three goals in two Euro2016 qualifiers while Liverpool's Sturridge nurses a thigh injury sustained on international duty at the start of September.
Welbeck's has been in fine form for both club and country since leaving Manchester United but does not necessarily feel that the striker position for England is his with a fit Sturridge still a very valuable commodity.
"No, because I have been in squads with Daniel Sturridge before and we have played in different positions," he said after scoring in the 5-0 rout of San Marino on Thursday night.
"There is me, Daniel, Wayne [Rooney] and Raheem [Sterling] as well and all the other forward players, so you can't just say this is the opportunity to make my mark.
"Whoever is in the squad I am going to try my best in every single game and training.
"Playing as a centre forward and getting into those goal-scoring opportunities it becomes much easier."
Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, 23-year old Welbeck has scored a total of seven goals in eight appearances for both Arsenal and England.
