Arsenal missing nine senior players for season opener

Arsenal will go into their season opener with Newcastle United missing nine senior players.

Arsenal's injury problems got worse during Saturday's 2-1 loss to Benfica in Lisbon as Gunners Robin van Persie, Kieran Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen all picked up knocks.

Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Lauren Koscielny, Abou Diaby and Samir Nasri are also injured, while Cesc Fabregas is not fit.

Keeper Wojciech Szczesny said: "I wouldn't pay too much attention to the result against Benfica.

"Players are out but they're just minor knocks. I hope all the key players will be fit for Newcastle."
