Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has said that he never gave up on being recalled to the England national team.
Wilshere was last in a Three Lions squad for the friendlies against Scotland and Spain in November 2016, and his last appearance for his country came when England were defeated 2-1 by Iceland during Euro 2016.
Wilshere has never played for England under Gareth Southgate. However, the manager did include the 26-year-old for England's upcoming friendly internationals against Italy and the Netherlands later this month.
After his recall, Wilshere said: "It's always an honour to play for my country - I've said that many times.
"I never gave up hope - I believed in myself and I believed in my ability. It was just about getting games in the Premier League, as the manager said."
