Arsenal midfielder Wilshere gives Giroud encouragement

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes that Olivier Giroud is not on the Arsenal bench because of his lack of ability or performances, but the club's squad depth.

Wilshere spoke to the club's website after the 1-1 draw against Southampton at St. Mary's, and Giroud was the subject of conversation.

"I think it shows the depth in our squad," he said.

"For me Oli is one of the best strikers in the Premier League when he's on it and he's on the bench, so it shows what we've got."

Wilshere also believes that Giroud will get the chance to show what he can do from the start for the Gunners.

"There are a lot of games in December, so I'm sure he's going to get a start and if he's coming on scoring goals that's massive for the team and it was an important goal for him today," he continued.

Giroud has not started a single Premier League game this season, coming off the bench 13 times. He does have four goals in those appearances, showing his value as a super sub. And he has featured six times from the start in the Europa League, scoring three goals.
