Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is shocked by the retirement of Kevin Grosskreutz.

The midfielder, who with Ozil won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, has stepped away from the game at Stuttgart.

Ozil reacted to BILD: "I find it very unfortunate that he stopped playing football.

"He is an honest, open type. I've seen him as a professional in the national team. I do not know first-hand what happened in Stuttgart.

"But we athletes need to be aware of our role model status."
