Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil is baffled by people talking up the Turkish influence in his family background.

Ozil is adamant he his German born and bred.

He complained to BILD: "Many people have forgotten that I was born in Gelsenkirchen and that I grew up in Germany.

"If I do not sing during the national anthem, it is because I am concentrating on the game.

"And I pray for health and happiness during the national anthem of Germany."
