Arsenal look to miss out on Roma defender Mexes

Roma defender Philippe Mexes is not looking to move elsewhere in the January transfer window, reports his agent. The French international centre-back was linked with Arsenal over the summer and was linked with a move to the Emirates in the New Year after falling down the pecking order at the Italian capital club.

The 28 year old had reportedly showed his displeasure on being left out of the team, but his agent Olivier Jouanneaux has denied the French stopper has been quarrelling with boss Claudio Ranieri over his recent exclusion.

"What was reported in Rome is incorrect," Jouanneaux told calciomercato.com. "Mexes never said that he demanded a place, but only that if he plays a little he will take this into account when selecting his future.

"It's a very normal situation. I don't think it is a thing which could trouble someone. In the last six months Philippe has played so little and that has never happened in his career.

"Despite this, he has never raised his voice. With the coach, he has a professional relationship and the relationship between the player and the management is great.

"They know the thought of Philippe and he knows theirs. At the moment there hasn't begun a real negotiation for renewal, because we are in a period with matches every three days and everyone is rightly focused on the field.

"When the right time arrives, we'll analyse the situation, meet together and make our assessments. Getting to the expiry of contract would be a defeat for all. The unfounded controversy during the last days certainly didn't help either party."
