Arsenal and Liverpool are being encouraged in their pursuit of Barcelona fullback Martin Montoya. The Daily Star says reports in Spain suggest Montoya has put all negotiations over a new deal on hold as he looks to cement a place in Gerardo Martino's first-team.
His current deal expires in June.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has monitored Montoya for a number of months and is weighing up pre-contract deal to lure him to Anfield next summer.
Arsene Wenger is also keen to bolster his Arsenal backline with the future of Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen uncertain and has earmarked the Spanish star as one of his possible targets.
