Arsenal legend Wright slams Dempsey over Fulham antics

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has slammed Fulham striker Clint Dempsey over his 'go-slow' antics.

Dempsey is attempting to push through a move to Liverpool before Friday's transfer deadline.

But Wright told Absolute Radio: "I always find it very uncomfortable if a player refuses to play for a football club. Sometimes players get to a stage where maybe they don't want to play for the football club any more but while you're a Fulham player, or while you're playing for the club and you're contracted to the club, you should play. I think Fulham have been very loyal to him. He's done very well in respect of that. Do you know what I mean? I think his return has been fantastic for them but they've given him the stage and the platform and to refuse to play for a club, for me, it's unforgivable really.

"I think they should try and conclude whatever deal they're doing with him so he can go sooner rather than later. What really baffles me with some players when they do that and refuse to play is that they give great service all through the years and the fans love him, and this and that, and then just at the death there, refusing to play.

"Literally, it's almost like a slap in the face for the fans, turning your back on them after giving you that kind of service. Now, when he does go back, he's done brilliantly and he'll most probably get booed or whatever. Why do that? Do you know what I mean? Why refuse to play? Just play."
