Arsenal legend Ian Wright says Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney needs professional help to handle his temper.
In his column for The Sun, Wright wrote: "Rooney's reaction in front of a TV camera on Saturday made for uncomfortable viewing.
"To the extent that people are focusing on that moment rather than the fantastic hat-trick he scored. While looking at Rooney's face, I started having flashbacks.
"After scoring, there would generally be a period of 10 to 15 seconds when my emotions would be out of control but I would be absolutely delighted. Yet sometimes I would let personal issues bubble to the surface after scoring a goal and my reactions would be negative rather than positive.
"Like Rooney at West Ham.
"It is hardly any secret that I had a few brushes with the football authorities over the years. But one thing I kept from my team-mates at both Arsenal and West Ham was that for a period of five years, I went to weekly anger management sessions, such were the issues I was attempting to confront. In the end, I won the battle.
"Today, I'm urging Rooney to do the same as he doesn't appear to be in a particularly good place."
