Arsenal legend Wright: Liverpool MUST push boat out for Drogba

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool should take a chance on Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. Drogba could become available from Shanghai Shenhua.

Wright wrote in The Sun: "Rodgers appears to have a straight choice between Didier Drogba and Michael Owen.

"He should go for Drogba, who could be available due to problems at Shanghai Shenhua.

"As a lone striker, he can be outstanding, while it would be a great experience for wide man Raheem Sterling to play with such an awesome player.

"Equally, Drogba could form an alliance with Suarez if Rodgers wanted to go with two up front.

"I see Henry's point about wages and I know Liverpool would be unable to pay Drogba the £250,000-a-week he's getting in China.

"Equally, Liverpool must accept - as they discovered with Dempsey - that decent strikers don't come cheap.

"I'm sure Drogba would take a cut in wages but Liverpool would have to make some financial commitment.

"With Drogba, Liverpool would be guaranteed instant success in terms of goals.

"Re-signing former Liverpool star Owen would be more of a risk. Although two years younger at 32, Owen has everything to prove.

"He has only started 64 Premier League games in the last seven years in his spells with Newcastle and Manchester United."
