Arsenal legend Wright happy to see West Brom's Carson in England frame

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is pleased to see West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson win an England recall.

In his column for The Sun, Wright penned: "The decision to pick Carson for the match at Wembley will haunt McClaren throughout the rest of his management career.

"It was a massive mistake. A needless gamble that didn't pay off.

"Carson was playing in only his second international and he had a bit of a nightmare, to put it mildly.

"But we've moved on now. And I'd love it if Fabio Capello gave Carson a return to the England team against Germany tomorrow.

"David James is clearly Capello's No1 so I don't see what we would learn if he started in Berlin. With Manchester City's Joe Hart suffering an ankle injury against Hull, picking Carson would be the obvious choice.

"He's been having a tough time with West Brom, who have been conceding a few goals.

"But playing Carson in a better team would give us a clearer idea of how good he is - and whether he has completely forgotten about that match against Croatia."
