Arsenal legend Ian Wright has branded Avram Grant a "genius" for signing his ex-teammate Nicolas Anelka for Chelsea.

In his column for The Sun, Wright wrote: "Some people thought Avram Grant was mad for signing him but it could prove to be a touch of genius.

"I've always felt Nicolas could be the best striker in the Premier League and one of the best in the world.

"He's the top flight's top scorer with 10 goals and I'd love it if he finally proved he is real class, rather than just a pretty good Premier League striker.

"Nicolas actually replaced me in the first team when I got injured so we didn't play alongside each other much - but we always got on really well.

"Didier Drogba probably thinks he's going to be able to breeze back into the team. I want Nicolas to put Drogba in his place and effectively say 'No, you're not walking back into the side'."
