Arsenal legend Ian Wright feels Chelsea's players 'gave up' in defeat at West Ham United.

Wright wrote in The Sun: "Roman Abramovich - and all the club's fans - will already have to accept that the Premier League is a two-horse race with both clubs coming from Manchester.

"Only after appointing Benitez did Abramovich decide to speak with the fans. But it was a bit too late for that.

"Had he kept Roberto Di Matteo in charge, I wonder whether Chelsea would have managed only a couple of draws and a 3-1 loss at West Ham.

"This is certainly not the Chelsea team we have become used to over the years. West Ham should have been buried in the first half but Benitez's team did not have any fight after they conceded.

"When West Ham scored their second, I expected a Chelsea onslaught over the last few minutes. But, remarkably, they conceded again.

"I don't remember a Chelsea team playing as badly as this for many, many years. Criminally, they seemed to give up.

"I accept there is uncertainty over Benitez's future but that is no excuse, particularly when you consider Chelsea have had interim managers before."
