The Sun says the French midfielder, 35, is ready to bring the curtain down on his glittering playing career.
And he was sounded out about a possible return to North London to take up a role within the Emirates backroom staff.
But Vieira looks set to become the latest player to slip through Arsenal boss Wenger's grasp - and head for Manchester City instead.
City were his last club and the free agent is in advanced talks with the FA Cup winners about a similar role there.
