Arsenal hero Ray Parlour says Gooners must move on from Robin van Persie's defection to Manchester United.

Former Arsenal captain Van Persie can expect a hot reception in north London, where passions still run high among some supporters over the manner in which the Holland forward left last summer in a £24million move.

"Manchester United have been absolutely fantastic this year," Parlour told talkSPORT. "They've bounced back from last season and Sir Alex Ferguson and the players have done a great job.

"If I was playing of course I would applaud, they've been the best team this year, there's no question about it.

"There will be a bit of friction between Robin van Persie and the fans, but you've got to get over it and move on. He's switched to Manchester United. We'd have loved to see him in an Arsenal shirt this season, but it wasn't to be."
