Arsenal clinched the £5 million signing of Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra just 15 minutes before the summer transfer window slammed shut last night.

Boss Arsene Wenger had been chasing the Frenchman, 22, all summer.

Wenger said: "Lassana is a multi-functional player making him a great addition to our squad.

"He is hard working, has a creative edge and is comfortable playing in midfield or at right-back."
