Arsenal in Mustafi discussions with Valencia

Arsenal are believed to be involved in talks with Valencia regarding Shkodran Mustafi.

Sky Germany is reporting that the Gunners have opened discussions with the Spanish club but no offer has yet been made for the 24-year-old defender.

Arsene Wenger revealed earlier this week that he will sign a another defender following the knee injury sustained by Per Mertesacker which will keep the towering German out for up to five months.

His fellow countryman Mustafi has emerged as Arsenal's priority defensive target and it is understood that they have made contact with Valencia regarding the player's availability.

Mustafi, who spent time with Everton and Sampdoria before joining Los Che in 2014, has a release clause of around £42million but Arsenal believe they can land him for an initial fee of £25.3m plus a further £8.4m in add-ons.
