Arsenal legend Robert Pires admits Gerard Houllier left him confused at Aston Villa.

Houllier signed Pires on a six month deal at Villa, but rarely played the veteran midfielder.

"Yes, I'm a little disappointed because I would have liked to finish playing over there and above all to be used more often. Knowing that I was physically well in training and that I could bring something more ... you will have to ask Gerard Houllier because personally, I proved every morning that I was.

"He had given his confidence to other players and I'm not used to this. It was a choice on his part. The worst part is that the idea came from Gerard Houllier, so I did everything to play and succeed. Unfortunately, it did not go well since I was only a starter four times."
