Arsenal icon Bergkamp questions desire of today's youngsters

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has questioned the desire of some young players in England.

Bergkamp sees many youngsters going through the motions, despite making it in the Premier League.

He told Absolute Radio: "I've got my questions sometimes, you know. I'm not really sure if every player loves the game how they should love it. I think it is fantastic, you can make a career out of it, you can make good money out of it, you can be successful, you can make history, but it all starts with putting your time in that, and that is the love of the game.

"I mean staying behind after training sessions, do a little bit extra, focus on football, not only on the pitch but off the pitch as well. I think those are really good things to start with for young players, and think about.

"If you are with the young players, they all want to be a professional footballer, but at some point you hit an age and you hit some moment in your life that they realise, okay there are other things as well. Other things than football, and that is when it gets dangerous for them. Then they start to think of other things, like drinking or clubbing or that sort of stuff. That to me, means that they don't really love the game, they don't really have what it takes to be successful. It is sometimes difficult to get that across that message."
