Arsenal hero Wilson jumps to defence of Man City keeper Hart

Former Arsenal goalkeeper coach Bob Wilson has jumped to the defence of Manchester City keeper Joe Hart.

Wilson insists the England man hasn't suffered a form slide.

"I am a huge fan of Joe, and I was impressed when we met at just how passionate he is about what he does," Wilson told the Mail on Sunday. "Over a period of time, Hart has shown he is England's best goalkeeper.

"Yet Joe's immediate future with England is in the hands of Pellegrini. Even though Pellegrini seems a much more calm, perhaps more thoughtful, manager than Roberto Mancini, I don't think Mancini would have dropped Hart. If you took a private poll of the Manchester City squad to ask them who they would prefer to have playing behind them, I guarantee 98 per cent would have Joe Hart. Joe played a huge part when City won the Premier League title just 18 months ago.

"I don't think he has had a dramatic loss of form. I accept he made a really bad decision that cost City the match at Chelsea last month, when he came very late from his line. But these days, with the ball the game is played with - so unpredictable in flight - and the rule changes affecting goalkeepers, I think keepers make two or three wrong decisions per game because of the complexities of the art today."
