Arsenal hero Smith: Mustafi looks the real deal

Arsenal hero Alan Smith feels Shkodran Mustafi is looking a canny signing by Arsene Wenger.

Mustafi eventually joined Arsenal from Valencia in the closing days of the transfer window following a protracted deal, but the Germany international has taken to the Premier League quickly despite describing his £35m fee as a "burden".

Smith wrote in his column for The Telegraph: "Mustafi, by and large, has slipped into the rhythm with impressive results. Over the last four games, he has not only formed a promising partnership with Laurent Koscielny but showed he can thrive amid the physical stuff.

"If this rather staid Turf Moor tussle told us anything, it was that Mustafi quite fancies a bit of push-and-shove. When he sees the ball, he likes to attack it.

"More promising still, those at Arsenal confirm that he is no shrinking violet when it comes to speaking up in the dressing room.

"Of course, that is how it should be. Strong voices and views go hand in hand with successful teams."
