Arsenal hero Martin Keown has welcomed their capture of Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker.
Keown made 332 league appearances during two spells with the north Londoners.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: "Maybe there hasn't been the imaginative signing we were all hoping for - but it's just great to see Arsenal buying anybody at all.
"And these are solid signings, central defender Mertesacker has played 76 times for Germany and he is still only 26.
"In Chu-Young Park we have signed another leader. He's captain of the South Korean national team. I like the look of Santos too."
