Contrary to reports, Arsenal have not made a play for Bayer Leverkusen's Tranquillo Barnetta.

According to the players agent, the Gunners have not enquired about the 23-year old although it is understood that Portsmouth tried to sign him in January.

"There has been no contact with Arsenal whatsoever," Wolfgang Voege told setanta.com.

"The story is a complete fabrication.

"Portsmouth tried to sign the player in the January transfer window, but Bayer did not want to sell and that was that.

"Since then I have had no contact with any Premier League clubs.

"Lazio and Valencia have both approached me regarding his availability, but it is his dream to play in The Premier League."
