Arsenal great Pires hopes first HeroISL victory lifts FC Goa

Robert Pires is hoping FC Goa's first win in the Indian Super League can kickstart their season.

The Arsenal legend was not on the pitch in Saturday's 2-1 come-from-behind win over Delhi Dynamos as he was serving a two-match suspension but is now ready to get back to action and help the club achieve success in 2014.

"I think getting the first victory of the tournament is very important," he told indiansuperleague.com after the win.

"We played well against Chennai, NorthEast United and Kolkata but we did not win. Hence, tonight it was important to beat Delhi Dynamos and we did, playing good football.

"Tonight is Goa's night and I hope we kick the season on from here."

Pires added: "It was very difficult to sit there. It's my job to be on the pitch with my team. Now that my suspension is over, I'm ready to face Kerala Blasters (on November 6)."

Goa conceded in the seventh minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda before Jewel Raja and Tolgay Ozbey hit the back of the net late in the second half to lift the club to sixth on the ISL table.
