Arsenal great Parlour: Wenger can deal with fan pressure

Ray Parlour believes Arsene Wenger is well-equipped to cope with the pressure that comes from Arsenal supporters.

Once again, the Gunners have been left in the wake of their rivals in regards to summer transfer activity, signing just Granit Xhaka, young defender Rob Holding and promising Japanese attacker Takuma Asano.

That pails into comparison to Manchester United who have signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkihtaryan and Eric Bailly, while Manchester City have landed John Stones, Nolito, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno (the latter two loaned out).

Chelsea have also made a splash by bringing in the likes of N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi which could prompt further unrest from Arsenal's fans as Wenger has not yet strengthened as he might have liked after a second-placed finish last term.

While Parlour is aware that the Gunners need to attract some quality players, he knows very well that Wenger can deal with the pressure that comes with the territory, as he has done for the past two decades.

"The fans want silverware," Parlour told The Sun.

"If we start losing games the fans will be on their backs asking 'where are the signings? Why didn't we strengthen?'

"There's probably not so much pressure from the board but the fans are demanding performances.

"But that's why he's a top manager – because he can deal with pressure."
