Arsenal fullback Clichy: Man City good for English game

Arsenal fullback Gael Clichy says Manchester City's new power is great for English football.

He told BBC Sport: "I think it's a good thing for English football.

"For some people it's a bad thing because we are talking about big money at Man City and in the timing in the world with the crisis and all that is going on in the world, it can be sometimes crazy for people to see that spending that much money in one month but for English football, if we are talking football, I think it's a good thing because it's bringing another team to challenge the top four and I think it's only good for us, for Man U, for Chelsea, for Tottenham, whatever, Liverpool.

"Because that challenge will be a little bit more. They've got good players, a good team and we surely know that at Arsenal because we lost but for me I always like to play against the best players and the best teams around the world and if they can become one of the big teams in Europe, then it will be good for English football because that's what you want.

"People always say it's a shame to lose Alonso and Ronaldo to Madrid and that's exactly the fact. You want to play the big players, the best teams and we have all this in England so if we bring more players and teams to challenge the top four then it's fantastic."
