Arsenal have failed with an opening bid for Atletico Madrid fullback Juanfran.
The Mirror says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger targeted the 29-year-old last summer and made fresh enquiries to try and make him Bacary Sagna's replacement. Sagna is set to join Manchester City on a free.
Spanish international Juanfran was outstanding in Atletico Madrid's march to the Champions League final and Arsenal made were keen on a £9m deal.
But it is believed that Juanfran made it clear he wanted to stay put at Atletico and Arsenal will keep looking.
