Arsenal have been encouraged in their interest in Olympique Lyon winger Hatem Ben Arfa.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had Ben Arfa watched last weekend and will be pleased by news that the youngster has delayed talks over a new deal at Lyon.

"The talks are advancing well and I feel happy at Lyon," he said. "And, for the moment, my future is not news. We will see about all that at the end of the season."

Ben Arfa added in L'Equipe: "I am disappointed at not playing more and I see that a lot of people are surprised to see me often on the bench.

"But I can only hope to get my place back in the team. It is all I can do insofar as the coach has never told me why I am a substitute.

"I still have hope and a desire to play."
