Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is surprised Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was selected by England.
The 18-year-old midfielder made his England debut against Norway last weekend and is reportedly set to start Saturday's game, and Vermaelen has backed him to succeed at Euro 2012 if called upon.
"I was a little bit surprised to see him called up," he said.
"But in the end he has been a great player for us, for Arsenal, and I think he deserves to be there.
"From my point of view, I think he will do great if he gets some time to play."
